Meet a few of our fantastic K-State musicians!
Zach Terrell, violin
Zach is a junior, pursuing a double major in computer science and history. He is also an active member and leader in the K-State string division, both as a member of the orchestra as well as the leading string quartet in the program. According to Zach, "The KSUSO is important because it allows me to interact with like-minded musicians in an environment that is both friendly and challenging."
Mikaela Lange, cello
Mikaela Lange is a cellist and junior music education major who serves as an active leader throughout the K-State music education community. She appreciates the chance to work and create great music with great people. As she reflects on her experience with the KSUSO she writes, "Being in this program gives me the chance to truly feel like myself and let all of my worries leave during rehearsal."
Lydia Paxton, violin
Lydia Paxton, senior music education major, is focusing her studies in both strings and vocal music. She is an active leader in both programs and has served as section leader and librarian for the KSUSO. She has loved being an active member of the ensemble and writes, "I have especially enjoyed the level of high quality music literature I have had the opportunity to play and I love that I get to perform amazing music with outstanding musicians for my friends and community members."
Nathan Hurst, bass
Nathan Hurst, freshman bassist in the ensemble, is psychology major with future aspirations of pursuing clinical psychology. As a new student at K-State, Nathan has appreciated the family and community atmosphere of the orchestra. "I walked in and felt welcome, and especially now it has been wonderful to make good connections on campus."
Ashley Griffin, violin
Ashley Griffin is a junior animal science major and a violinist in the KSUSO. She values her time in the ensemble because it keeps her connected to music. "My passion since I was old enough to speak has been to be a veterinarian. Even though I'm not a music major, the KSUSO allows me to keep up with both of my dreams."
Emma McGinnis, violin
Emma McGinnis, sophomore music education major, is a violinist in the K-State string division. She appreciates the opportunity to make great music with her peers but also recognizes the orchestra's importance, "because no matter what I'm going through I know that I have a large group of people who will always be there to support me.
